Balvalaich Broch

Balvalaich broch is situated on the sloping sides of the Strath of Kildonan, being a quarried heap of stones in which some of the inner and outer faces can just be discerned. There may have been an outer defensive turf and stone wall, but its identity is uncertain.

There is easy access from the single track road through the Strath of Kildonan just a few miles inland from Helmsdale. Although the broch is practically beside the road, you can't see it so be sure to have your map with you to help you locate it. You can park on the road verge just 100 yds down the strath from the Balvallioch cottage. There is a gate through a fence just down from the broch, and remember to close it after you.
