Tiantulloch Broch
A memorable broch, not far inland from Dunbeath and Latheronwheel. Perhaps the most striking aspect of the broch is that looking in one direction you can see right across the moors to Morven, Maiden Pap and Scaraben, but if you look in the other direction the wind turbines of Buolfruich windfarm tower over you. It's certainly one of the most memorable brochs for me because I could feel the march of time from the iron age to the 21st Century. Looking at the ruins it looks as if a large community grew up around the broch and stone from it was used to build housing in all round defence surrounding the main broch.
Easy access, but could be very boggy if it's wet and wellies are recommended. Park somewhere on the verge beside the Buolfruich wind farm without blocking the road or passing places, and the broch is less than 100 yds from the road. There is a gate into the field to be negotiated with care. The broch and surrounding ruins are in a dangerous condition, so keep children supervised and away from the ruins.

Disclaimer: Some brochs were built with military defensive purpose, and as such can be situated in extremely dangerous areas, such as on the edge of cliffs and ravines. Additionally, these are Iron Age structures, most of them in ruins, and they are extremely hazardous, with crumbling stone walls and hidden chambers. Existing walls, lintels, and passages could collapse at any time.
